Actress says her comments were misrepresented and reflects on her relationship with the media and Telugu audiences
Actress Nithya Menen has spoken candidly about her experiences in the film industry, her interactions with the media, and the controversy surrounding the widely discussed “Who is Prabhas?” remark. In a recent interview, the actress said the incident had a significant emotional impact on her and changed the way she approached media interactions.
According to Nithya Menen, the controversy stemmed from a misunderstanding during the early stages of her career. She explained that she was not someone who watched a lot of films and was still new to the Telugu film industry at the time. When someone mentioned Prabhas’ name, she simply asked, “Who?” because she was unfamiliar with him then.
However, the comment was allegedly presented in a different context, leading to reports that she had said, “Who is Prabhas?” in a dismissive manner. Nithya said the narrative that emerged was far from what actually happened and left her feeling deeply hurt.
“I Felt Betrayed”
Reflecting on the episode, Nithya said the incident affected her emotionally and made her more cautious while speaking publicly.
“That experience hurt me a lot. I felt misunderstood and betrayed. Before that, I used to speak very openly and honestly during interviews. Afterward, I became more careful about what I shared and how I expressed myself in public,” she said.
The actress added that she now prefers to reserve her openness for people who genuinely understand her intentions rather than exposing every personal thought in public conversations.
A Call for Greater Sensitivity
Nithya Menen also emphasized the need for media outlets and the public to view actors as individuals with emotions rather than as subjects for sensational headlines.
“Actors are human beings with feelings and vulnerabilities. Reports that are published without understanding the complete context can be hurtful. Every story involves a real person, and that should never be forgotten,” she said.
Special Bond with Telugu Audiences
Having worked across Malayalam, Tamil, Kannada, and Telugu cinema, Nithya revealed that she interacts more frequently with Telugu media because of the strong connection she shares with Telugu audiences.
“The Telugu audience has always shown me immense love and support. Much of the recognition I have received is because of them. That affection is one of the reasons I continue to engage with Telugu media and stay connected with my fans,” she said.
Nithya noted that while she generally avoids frequent public appearances, she makes an effort to connect with her audience whenever possible, acknowledging the affection and encouragement she has received throughout her career.
Through her remarks, the actress highlighted the emotional challenges public figures can face when their words are taken out of context, while also expressing gratitude for the unwavering support of her fans and the Telugu audience.
