The annual Brahmotsavams of Sri Govindaraja Swamy Temple commenced grandly on Saturday with the ceremonial Dhwajarohanam. Amid Vedic chants and Govinda nama smarana, the sacred Garuda flag was hoisted on the Dwajasthambam, marking the beginning of the nine-day festival.
Earlier, Sri Govindaraja Swamy along with Sridevi and Bhudevi, accompanied by Chakrathalwar and other deities, was taken in a grand procession through the four mada streets. Special rituals including Vishwaksena Aradhana, Vastu Homam, Garuda Homam and Raksha Bandhanam were performed. Snapana Tirumanjanam was later conducted using milk, curd, honey, coconut water, turmeric and sandal paste.
The temple town was beautifully decorated with colourful illuminations depicting Lord Vishnu’s Dasavataras. Evening Unjala Seva and Pedda Sesha Vahana Seva attracted huge crowds of devotees. Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams made elaborate arrangements for devotees attending the festivities.
