A fresh militant attack in Nigeria’s Borno state has triggered major concern after suspected Islamist extremists abducted at least 42 children from a school. The attack took place at Mussa Primary and Junior Secondary School in Askira-Uba while classes were in session.
According to officials, 32 students were taken directly from the campus, while 10 more children were kidnapped from nearby homes. Borno has long been the epicenter of the Boko Haram insurgency, which has terrorized northeastern Nigeria for over 15 years. The incident has revived memories of the 2014 Chibok schoolgirls kidnapping that shocked the world.
