In a shocking political development in the West Bengal Assembly elections, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has suffered a defeat. Contesting from the Bhabanipur constituency, she lost to BJP candidate Suvendu Adhikari by a margin of over 10,000 votes.
Notably, Mamata Banerjee had also lost to Suvendu Adhikari in the 2021 elections, and the latest result marks a repeat of that outcome, drawing significant political attention.
At the state level, the BJP has secured a landslide victory, winning over 200 seats and is set to form the government. Meanwhile, the Trinamool Congress (TMC) has managed to win only 72 seats so far and is leading in 7 others
