Amaravati could soon add another advanced technology capability to its growing development plans, with quantum computing services expected to begin in January 2027, according to the Andhra Pradesh government.
The proposed service is part of the State's broader plan to develop Amaravati as a centre for emerging technologies. Rather than focusing only on setting up computing infrastructure, the government is looking to create an ecosystem where researchers, students, startups and technology companies can work on quantum applications.
The Amaravati Quantum Valley is expected to be at the heart of this initiative. The project is being planned around areas such as quantum computing, quantum communication, cybersecurity and other deep-tech applications.
Quantum computers work differently from conventional machines, using quantum bits, or qubits, to process information. The technology is still developing, but researchers see potential applications in fields including drug discovery, materials science, financial modelling, logistics and artificial intelligence.
Building a skilled workforce will also be important if Amaravati is to establish itself as a serious quantum technology hub. The State government is therefore looking at training programmes, research opportunities and support for startups working in the sector.
The proposed infrastructure could give universities and technology companies in Andhra Pradesh an opportunity to experiment with quantum computing and develop applications locally. It could also help attract companies and researchers looking for a base to work on emerging technologies.
If the January 2027 target is achieved, the launch would mark another step in Andhra Pradesh's effort to position Amaravati as more than an administrative capital. The State is increasingly looking at areas such as artificial intelligence, quantum computing and deep technology as part of the city's long-term economic and technology strategy.
