Justice Valluri Kameswara Rao from Andhra Pradesh is set to take up a key judicial position. The Supreme Court Collegium has recommended his appointment as the Chief Justice of the Patna High Court. The Collegium, headed by Chief Justice of India Justice Surya Kant, has made several recommendations to the Central Government for the appointment of Chief Justices of various High Courts.
As per the Collegium's recommendations, Justice Kameswara Rao has been proposed as the Chief Justice of the Patna High Court. It has also recommended the appointment of Justice Ravindra Vithalrao Ghuge, Acting Chief Justice of the Bombay High Court, as Chief Justice of the Calcutta High Court. Allahabad High Court judge Justice Maheshchandra Tripathi has been proposed as Chief Justice of the Bombay High Court, while Punjab and Haryana High Court Acting Chief Justice Justice Ashwin Kumar Mishra has been recommended as the full-time Chief Justice of the same court.
The appointments will be formally notified by the Union Law Ministry after receiving the approval of President Droupadi Murmu.
Justice Valluri Kameswara Rao was born in 1965 in Amalapuram, in Andhra Pradesh's Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Konaseema district. His native village is Ponnamanda in Razole mandal. As his father settled in Delhi due to his job, Justice Kameswara Rao pursued his education and legal career in the national capital.
He was appointed as an Additional Judge of the Delhi High Court in 2013 and became a permanent judge in 2015. He has also served as the Acting Chief Justice of the Karnataka High Court.
The recommendation of a Telugu-origin judge from Konaseema for the prestigious post of Chief Justice has sparked celebrations among people in his native region.
