Prime Minister Narendra Modi virtually inaugurated indoor cricket academies in North-East India from Gangtok today, marking a major milestone in sports development.
These modern facilities have been built with the support of the Board of Control for Cricket in India and are expected to transform opportunities for young cricketers in the region.
In Imphal, Manipur, the academy at Luwangpokpa Stadium includes three indoor practice pitches, a gymnasium, a swimming pool, and administrative facilities. It allows players to train throughout the year, even during heavy monsoon seasons.
Another academy was launched in Doimukh, Arunachal Pradesh, further strengthening cricket infrastructure in the North-East.
Importantly, the BCCI will cover operational costs for the next two years, ensuring sustained support and development of local talent.
