Ebola virus alert has put Visakhapatnam authorities on high vigilance. Following directions from the Union Health Ministry, surveillance has been intensified at Visakhapatnam International Airport, the seaport, and universities including Andhra University and GITAM.
Officials are closely monitoring passengers and students arriving from Ebola-affected countries such as Congo, Uganda, and South Sudan.
A 30-bed isolation ward has been prepared at the Government Hospital for Chest and Communicable Diseases to handle any suspected cases. Health screening has already been conducted for all 184 passengers arriving from Singapore on Scoot Flight TR784.
Passengers are now required to submit self-declaration forms mentioning their recent travel history.
According to health officials, Ebola symptoms include high fever, sore throat, chills, severe body pain, and headaches. However, authorities confirmed that no suspected Ebola cases have been detected in Visakhapatnam so far.
