Electric vehicle giant Tesla has reportedly reduced the price of its Model Y SUV by as much as ₹9 lakh in India, marking one of its most significant pricing moves in the country. The decision comes amid slower-than-expected sales and increasing competition in the Indian electric vehicle market.

The company is also restructuring its product lineup by introducing new variants and making changes to existing offerings. High pricing had previously pushed many buyers toward rival brands, prompting Tesla to adopt a more aggressive strategy to attract customers and expand its market share.

Industry experts believe the move could intensify competition for domestic automakers such as Tata Motors and Mahindra & Mahindra, as well as premium German EV manufacturers. The resulting price competition is expected to benefit consumers by making advanced electric vehicle technology more accessible.

With demand for electric vehicles steadily growing in India, Tesla hopes the lower pricing will drive showroom traffic and increase bookings. Market observers say the price cut could reshape the premium EV segment and strengthen Tesla’s position in one of the world’s fastest-growing automobile markets.
