Mumbai, June 8: Ram Charan and Janhvi Kapoor starrer Peddi, directed by Buchi Babu Sana, continues its strong run at the box office, crossing ₹169 crore net in India within five days of its release.
The film, which hit theatres on June 4 with paid premieres on June 3, collected an estimated ₹12.05 crore on its first Monday (Day 5), taking its total domestic collection to ₹169.70 crore, according to industry tracker Sacnilk. The film recorded an overall occupancy of 28% across 7,904 shows.
With this, Peddi has surpassed the lifetime India collections of Aamir Khan’s Sitaare Zameen Par (₹167.46 crore). It has also outperformed several recent big releases, including Guntur Kaaram, Game Changer, and The Raja Saab in lifetime earnings.
The film had opened with a strong ₹51 crore on Day 1, followed by ₹26.90 crore on Friday. Collections rose over the weekend, earning ₹28.85 crore on Saturday and ₹31.90 crore on Sunday, taking its first weekend total to ₹157.15 crore.
Backed by Vriddhi Cinemas and presented by Mythri Movie Makers and Sukumar Writings, Peddi features Ram Charan in the lead role, along with Janhvi Kapoor, Shiva Rajkumar, Jagapathi Babu, Divyenndu, and Boman Irani. Music is composed by A.R. Rahman.
The film narrates the story of a man from a marginalised community fighting for recognition through sport in a village lacking basic infrastructure such as schools, hospitals, and even a railway station.
While the film has been praised for its emotional storyline and performances, it has also faced criticism over the portrayal of the female lead character. Following backlash, director Buchi Babu Sana has reportedly apologized and stated that objectionable scenes will be edited out.
With a worldwide opening weekend gross of over ₹233 crore, Peddi continues its theatrical run, and industry watchers are now keen to see its weekday sustainability at the box office.
