Vishal’s much-awaited directorial debut Magudam has made its OTT debut on Amazon Prime Video. The Tamil action drama, in which Vishal also plays the lead role, is now streaming across Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Malayalam. The film originally hit theatres on August 14, 2026. Despite the anticipation surrounding Vishal’s first attempt at direction, Magudam struggled to make a strong impact at the box office and received underwhelming reviews. The story revolves around Kirubakaran, a medical representative who wants to lead a peaceful life with his family. His life changes after his wife and daughter are killed by enemies connected to his estranged father, Linga. Blaming his father for the tragedy, Kirubakaran distances himself from him before the past forces the two to confront their buried conflicts and seek redemption. Vishal takes on multiple roles in the film, while Anjali and Dushara Vijayan play the female leads. The supporting cast includes John Vijay, Jayaprakash, Thambi Ramaiah and others. The film is backed by Super Good Films and Vishal Film Factory. The theatrical response, however, was largely disappointing. Critics pointed to the film’s familiar commercial template, lengthy runtime and uneven screenplay. The Times of India rated it 2/5, while other reviews also highlighted problems with pacing, comedy and the utilisation of supporting characters. The OTT release could nevertheless give Magudam a second opportunity. Audiences who skipped its theatrical run can now watch it from home, while the availability in four languages expands its potential reach beyond the original Tamil market. Whether the film can overcome its theatrical shortcomings and connect better with streaming audiences remains to be seen. For viewers interested in Vishal’s first directorial venture, Magudam is now available to stream on Prime Video.
