Mithran, the film revolves around a dangerous operation that poses a major threat to the nation. So, does the sequel live up to the expectations? Here is our review. Story The story revolves around Operation Doku, an operation capable of causing massive destruction to the nation. India somehow manages to contain its impact, but Black Dagger (S. J. Suryah) brings it back into action, creating a serious threat. How Sardar and Vijay Prakash, both played by Karthi, along with other RAW agents, attempt to stop Operation Doku forms the core of the story. The film also reveals what the operation actually means and the danger it poses. Plus Points Karthi is once again the major strength of the film. He performs well in both the father and son roles and handles the emotional scenes effectively. The film also tries to deliver a relevant social message about the overuse of antibiotics, which is an important issue in today's world. A few dialogues dealing with the subject are meaningful. Ashika Ranganath and Malavika Mohanan are decent in their respective roles, while S. J. Suryah does justice to his character. Minus Points The biggest problem with Sardar 2 is its screenplay. The first film worked because of its gripping narration, well-timed mass moments and strong social message. The sequel has some interesting ideas but fails to present them effectively. The makers have clearly attempted to increase the scale and budget, but the narrative doesn't receive the same attention. The proceedings lack the grounded feel of the first film, while the tension and thrills are inconsistent. A comedy sequence involving S. J. Suryah, Yogi Babu and Nizhalgal Ravi in the second half feels completely out of place. It also raises questions about how people with such limited knowledge could become RAW agents. Several such episodes weaken the seriousness of the premise. The second half is lengthy, monotonous and short on genuine thrills. Technical Aspects Sam C.S delivers an average score, while the background score could have been much more impactful. George C. Williams' cinematography is neat, with some sequences shot effectively. The production values are solid, although the editing could have been tighter by trimming a few scenes. P. S. Mithran deserves credit for attempting to convey a relevant message about antibiotic overuse. However, the execution is not as strong this time. The core plot remains intact, but the film struggles to maintain engagement. Verdict Overall, Sardar 2 is an underwhelming follow-up to Sardar. The film has a relevant social message and a strong performance from Karthi, but the weak screenplay, lengthy runtime, unconvincing episodes and dull second half prevent it from reaching its potential.
