Yash’s latest action drama Toxic: A Fairy Tale for Grown-Ups is showing signs of a slowdown at the box office as it enters its first weekday stretch.
Directed by Geetu Mohandas, the film recorded another dip on its first Monday. According to trade estimates cited by Hindustan Times, Toxic had collected around ₹5.16 crore by 7 pm on Monday, taking its India net collection to approximately ₹219.26 crore.
The film crossed the ₹200-crore mark in India despite the consistent decline in its daily earnings.
Massive opening, followed by steady decline
Toxic opened in theatres on August 26 with a huge ₹101.10 crore net collection in India, making it one of the biggest Indian openings of 2026.
However, the film witnessed a sharp drop on its second day, collecting ₹37.65 crore. It then earned ₹27.20 crore on Day 3, ₹25.15 crore on Saturday and around ₹23 crore on Sunday, according to the figures cited by Hindustan Times.
The Monday performance has therefore become an important indicator of how well the film can sustain its theatrical run in the coming days.
Reviews may be affecting word of mouth
Despite its strong opening, Toxic has received largely mixed-to-negative reactions from audiences and critics.
Viewers have particularly criticised the film's screenplay, excessive violence and lack of narrative coherence. The weaker weekday numbers suggest that the response may be affecting the film's momentum after its initial fan-driven opening.
Still behind KGF Chapter 2
The film's current performance is also being compared with Yash's previous blockbuster KGF Chapter 2.
According to Hindustan Times, KGF Chapter 2 had collected ₹430.15 crore net in India within its first five days, significantly higher than Toxic's corresponding figure.
While Toxic has already crossed ₹200 crore domestically, its ability to maintain momentum during the weekdays will determine whether it can reach the next major box-office milestones.
What lies ahead for Toxic?
With the first Monday showing another drop, the film now needs stronger weekday collections and a substantial second-weekend recovery to maintain its theatrical momentum.
Toxic stars Yash, Kiara Advani, Nayanthara, Huma Qureshi, Rukmini Vasanth and Tara Sutaria. The film is set in Goa during the period of Portuguese rule and follows a gangster's rise and fall amid power, betrayal and violence.
