Global tensions are escalating ahead of the high-stakes US–China summit as US President Donald Trump heads to Beijing for talks with Chinese President Xi Jinping. Trump’s Iran war decision and the ongoing Persian Gulf crisis have weakened America’s global image, with the Strait of Hormuz nearly blocked, disrupting global oil supplies and trade routes.
Analysts say America’s aggressive tariffs, trade wars, and military actions have pushed China into a stronger position on the world stage. China countered US pressure by tightening control over rare earth mineral supplies and expanding trade ties with over 120 countries, while recording a massive trillion-dollar trade surplus.
Questions are also being raised over America’s moral authority to challenge China on Taiwan after launching attacks on Iran. Against this backdrop, the Trump–Xi meeting is being viewed as one of the most crucial summits in recent years, with the potential to reshape global political and economic power dynamics.
