Indonesia’s Anak Krakatoa volcano has erupted again..! The volcano spewed lava and ash continuously for nearly 24 hours, covering the sky with thick ash clouds and triggering panic in the region. As a precaution, eight airports, including Jakarta’s Soekarno-Hatta and Halim Perdanakusuma international airports, were temporarily shut down. Around 2,300 flights were cancelled or diverted, leaving nearly 270,000 passengers stranded.
Indonesia’s Geological Agency has issued a Level-3 high alert, warning that further eruptions could occur in the coming days. However, authorities have clarified that there is currently no tsunami threat, bringing relief to residents. In 2018, an eruption of the same volcano triggered a tsunami that killed around 430 people.
At present, authorities warn of ash, toxic gases and hot rocks, while the situation continues to be closely monitored.
