Tensions in the Persian Gulf have entered a dangerous new phase. The conflict between the United States and Iran, which until now had been limited to missile and drone strikes, is now showing signs of escalating into direct ground warfare.
In a shocking development, Kuwait has accused Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps — the IRGC — of infiltrating Kuwaiti territory. According to Kuwait’s Defense Ministry, armed IRGC fighters attempted to enter Bubiyan Island, Kuwait’s largest island, to carry out a ground operation.
The incident reportedly led to intense gunfire between Kuwaiti forces and IRGC units. One Kuwaiti soldier was said to be injured in the clash. Since the war began on February 28, this is believed to be the first direct ground confrontation in the Gulf region, triggering growing international concern.
Spread across nearly 333 square miles, Bubiyan Island is considered a strategic lifeline for Kuwait’s national security. Located at the entrance to the Persian Gulf, the island plays a crucial role in controlling key maritime trade routes. Analysts believe Iran’s anger may have been fueled by reports that the United States is planning to establish a temporary military base in the area.
