A fast-moving wildfire in Spokane, Washington, has expanded to more than 300 acres, forcing thousands of residents to evacuate as firefighters battle challenging conditions fueled by strong winds.

The blaze, known as the Upriver Fire, broke out near the Beacon Hill area and spread rapidly across dry vegetation. Authorities issued evacuation orders for several neighborhoods as the fire threatened homes and critical infrastructure. Reports indicate that some residential structures have been damaged or destroyed, although officials are still assessing the full extent of the losses.

Emergency response teams, including local fire departments and state agencies, have launched a large-scale operation involving ground crews, firefighting aircraft, and heavy equipment to contain the flames. More than 75 personnel have been deployed to protect residents and prevent further spread of the fire.

Officials said strong winds significantly contributed to the fire’s rapid growth, making containment efforts difficult. Thousands of residents have been asked to leave their homes, while emergency shelters have been opened to accommodate those displaced by the wildfire.

Authorities continue to monitor weather conditions closely, warning that additional wind activity could increase the fire risk. Residents in affected areas have been urged to follow evacuation instructions and remain alert for further updates from emergency management officials.

Fire crews remain on the front lines as efforts continue to bring the wildfire under control and protect communities across the Spokane region.
