A shooting in Midland, Texas, left at least one person dead and nine others injured on Friday morning, triggering a massive police response and an hours-long standoff with the suspect.
According to local authorities, gunfire erupted around 8 a.m. in one part of the city before the situation escalated near a nearby area, prompting emergency services to rush to the scene. Multiple victims were transported to hospitals for treatment, with several reported to be in serious condition.
Police quickly established a perimeter and deployed armored vehicles, drones, and tactical units as the suspect reportedly barricaded himself inside a building. The standoff lasted for nearly two hours before authorities confirmed that the gunman was found dead.
Eyewitnesses described hearing dozens of gunshots and seeing heavy police activity, including officers moving in armored vehicles and securing surrounding streets.
Midland Memorial Hospital temporarily went into heightened security mode as victims were admitted for emergency care. Officials confirmed that at least nine people were injured, while one victim died from injuries sustained during the shooting.
Authorities have not yet released the identity of the suspect or the victims. The motive behind the attack remains under investigation.
