In the wake of the Gachibowli building collapse, the Cyberabad civic authorities have stepped up action against unauthorised and unsafe constructions in the area. Officials have ordered the demolition of unauthorised under-construction structures that pose a safety risk.
The action follows the collapse of a seven-storey building in Anjaiah Nagar, Gachibowli, on August 22. Two workers were killed and another person was injured in the incident.
Demolition Drive Launched
HYDRAA and the Cyberabad Municipal Corporation have begun demolishing a nearby seven-storey structure that officials said was unauthorised and posed a potential collapse risk. Residents in the vicinity were evacuated as a precaution before the demolition work began.
The civic authorities are also examining other under-construction buildings for violations, particularly structures that were allegedly built without the required permissions or in violation of approved plans.
Building Owner Detained
The building that collapsed was reportedly constructed without the required municipal permissions. Cyberabad Police detained its owner, Syed Sajid, at Shamshabad Airport after alleging that he was attempting to leave the country.
The collapse claimed the lives of two tile workers from Madhya Pradesh, Umesh Khare and Mohpal Bhalavi.
Action Against Officials
The incident has also raised questions over how unauthorised construction was allowed to continue. The Cyberabad Municipal Corporation suspended a Town Planning Building Officer, alleging failure to prevent the unauthorised construction.
Authorities are now intensifying inspections and enforcement measures to identify unsafe structures and prevent similar incidents.
