Violence Escalates in Senapati

Tension gripped Manipur's Senapati district on Monday following a series of arson incidents and an exchange of gunfire between two groups.

A CRPF personnel was injured in the firing, while several houses were set ablaze in the affected areas.

Arson Reported Early Morning

According to police, unidentified persons set fire to a house in Taphou Kuki village in neighbouring Kangpokpi district at around 2:30 a.m.

Following the incident, several houses were reportedly burned in Naga Taphou in Senapati district at around 4 a.m.

CRPF Personnel Injured

The situation escalated further when an exchange of fire took place between two groups in the Taphou Naga area at around 9:20 a.m.

A CRPF personnel sustained a gunshot injury and was taken to Senapati District Hospital. A senior police officer said he was out of danger.

Protests Disrupt NH-2

The arson incidents triggered protests by local residents.

People gathered at Senapati Gate and burned logs and tyres on National Highway 2, disrupting the movement of vehicles along the route.

Village Authority Demands Action

The Taphou Kuki Village Authority strongly condemned the destruction of property.

It demanded that the authorities identify those responsible and take action within 24 hours.

Security Strengthened

Security forces have increased their presence in the affected areas to prevent further escalation.
