The price of commercial LPG cylinders has increased in Hyderabad, adding to the burden on hotels and eateries. The cost of a 19-kg commercial LPG cylinder has gone up by ₹52, rising from ₹3,315 to ₹3,367, according to the Telangana LPG Distributors Association.
The association attributed the hike to a nearly 2% increase in the dollar-rupee exchange rate. Association president Jagan Mohan Reddy described the increase as nominal, noting that rising international crude oil prices have contributed to higher LPG costs.
Hotel operators, however, say the hike is putting additional pressure on businesses already facing challenges. Representatives of Telangana’s hotel industry stated that customer footfall has declined, making it difficult to absorb rising operating costs. Several Udupi hotels in Hyderabad have reportedly increased menu prices by ₹30 to ₹50 for LPG-intensive items such as dosas and puris.
Hotel owners claim customer numbers have fallen by around 30%, while the association estimates that nearly 42,000 hotels, cafés, and eateries across Telangana are being affected by the rising LPG costs and the resulting impact on business.
