Defence PSU Garden Reach Shipbuilders & Engineers (GRSE) on Wednesday launched the next-generation offshore patrol vessel ‘Sanghmitra’ for the Indian Navy. Vice Chief of Naval Staff Sanjay Vatsayan attended the launch ceremony along with his wife Sarita.

The warship, being built at GRSE, is around 113 metres long and 14.6 metres wide with a displacement of 3,000 tonnes. It can travel at speeds of up to 23 knots and has an endurance of 8,500 nautical miles at 14 knots.

According to GRSE, the vessel will be used for anti-piracy missions, convoy operations, counter-infiltration duties, humanitarian assistance, disaster relief, search and rescue operations, and evacuation missions. Vice Admiral Vatsayan praised GRSE for strengthening the Indian Navy with advanced warships.
