The Odisha government has assigned the additional charge of Director General of Police to Crime Branch chief Vinaytosh Mishra. The move comes as incumbent DGP Y.B. Khurania is set to retire on August 16. Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi approved the proposal on Friday, with the arrangement taking effect from August 16.
A 1993-batch IPS officer, Mishra is currently serving as Director General of Police, CID-Crime Branch. He was promoted to the DGP grade in January 2025 and is among the state’s DGP-rank officers.
The decision comes amid uncertainty over the appointment of a full-time successor to Khurania, whose two-year tenure as Odisha DGP ends on August 16. Khurania, a 1990-batch IPS officer, took charge as the state police chief on August 16, 2024.
Before his retirement, Khurania met Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi at Lok Seva Bhavan in Bhubaneswar on Friday. Chief Secretary Anu Garg and senior officials from the Chief Minister’s Office were also present at the meeting.
