In a significant move to improve the integrity of vehicle-related services, the Odisha Transport Department has made Aadhaar authentication compulsory for key processes such as new vehicle registration and transfer of vehicle ownership.

Under the revised guidelines, applicants must complete Aadhaar-based identity verification before availing themselves of these services. The department believes that the new system will help establish the identity of vehicle owners more accurately while reducing the risk of fraudulent registrations and forged documentation.

Officials said the decision was taken in response to growing concerns over fake identities and fraudulent transactions in vehicle registrations. Aadhaar-based verification is expected to make the registration process more secure, reliable, and transparent.

The new rule is also expected to simplify ownership transfer procedures during the sale and purchase of vehicles. Authorities believe that verified identity records will help improve the accuracy of vehicle ownership data and assist law enforcement agencies in tracking vehicles involved in criminal activities.

The Transport Department has indicated that provisions may be introduced for applicants who are unable to complete Aadhaar authentication due to technical issues or other valid reasons. Additional operational guidelines are expected to be issued to address such cases.
