The total value of the PM CARES Fund has reached a record ₹8,452.07 crore for the financial year 2024-25, according to figures released by the government. Audit reports indicate that changes in the fund’s investment strategy played a key role in the significant growth.
The fund stood at ₹7,173.03 crore at the beginning of the financial year and increased substantially by the end of the year. Earlier, most of the PM CARES funds were reportedly kept in savings accounts. The fund has now shifted a major portion of its corpus to fixed deposits.
As of the latest figures, around ₹6,641 crore is held in fixed deposits, while ₹605.41 crore remains in savings accounts. Fixed deposits generated ₹469.38 crore in interest during the year, compared with just ₹5.77 crore earned through savings accounts.
The fund also received ₹479.04 crore in domestic donations and ₹92.83 lakh in foreign contributions. In addition, refunds worth ₹324.66 crore from various agencies were credited to the fund, further increasing its overall corpus.
