At least seven people were killed and several others sustained injuries in two separate road accidents that occurred in the Zaheerabad area of Sangareddy district on Tuesday night.
In the first incident, a speeding tanker collided with a passenger auto that was carrying around 12 daily wage workers, most of them women, near Satwar village in Mogudampally mandal. The accident occurred while the auto was taking a U-turn.
The victims were travelling from the Rajagiri area of Karnataka's Bidar district to Zaheerabad for daily work. Five women and the auto driver died on the spot, while the remaining passengers suffered serious injuries and were shifted to nearby hospitals for treatment. Police said the condition of several injured persons remains critical, and the death toll could rise.
In another incident, a car travelling on NH-65 near Kaveli village in Kohir mandal lost control, crossed the road median, and crashed into vehicles coming from the opposite direction. Two people were killed, several others were injured, and at least four vehicles were damaged in the collision.
Police rushed to both accident sites, shifted the injured to hospitals, and launched investigations to determine the exact cause of the crashes. Preliminary findings indicate that overspeeding and reckless driving may have contributed to the accidents.
The twin tragedies have once again raised concerns about road safety, speeding, and adherence to traffic regulations on highways in Telangana. Authorities have urged motorists to drive cautiously and strictly follow traffic rules to prevent such fatal accidents.
