The Telugu Fine Arts Society (TFAS), a source of pride for the Telugu community in New Jersey, organized a grand “Aradhana to Annamayya” event in association with Sai Datta Peetham to commemorate the 618th birth anniversary of Tallapaka Annamacharya, the revered saint-poet and pioneer of Telugu devotional literature.
Held at the Sai Datta Peetham Shiva Vishnu Temple on Oak Tree Road in Edison, New Jersey, the event brought together music, dance, literature, and spirituality in a vibrant celebration of Telugu culture and tradition.
The festivities began May 30 at 4 PM and featured a series of captivating cultural performances dedicated to the life and legacy of Annamacharya. One of the highlights of the evening was “Annamayya Charitra,” a Kuchipudi dance ballet presented by students of Siddhendra Kuchipudi Art Academy under the guidance of Guru Smt. Swati Atluri. The performance beautifully portrayed the spiritual journey and literary contributions of the legendary composer.
Adding to the grandeur, students of Acharya Dance School, led by Guru Smt. Soujanya Bandaru, presented Bharatanatyam performances based on Annamayya’s timeless compositions. Their graceful expressions and devotional interpretations left the audience spellbound.
The musical segment, “Annamayya Sangeeta Vibhavari,” featured soulful renditions of Annamayya Keertanas by students from Mahathi Music Academy, Krishnaveni School of Karnatak Music, and Swara Raga Sudha Kala Academy. Guided by Smt. Rekha Brahmasamudram, Smt. Vijayalalitha Vemuri, and Smt. Usha Akella, the young artists filled the venue with devotion and melody.
A special literary presentation titled “Telugu Lo Ramayanalu – Visishtata” showcased verses from the Ramayana traditions of Valmiki, Molla, Ranganatha, and Viswanatha Satyanarayana, highlighting the richness of Telugu literary heritage.
Community leaders, devotees, artists, and Telugu families attended the event in large numbers, applauding TFAS for its continued efforts in preserving and promoting Telugu language, culture, and traditions in the United States.
The organizers emphasized that celebrating great personalities like Annamacharya helps inspire future generations and strengthens cultural roots among Telugu youth living abroad.
