Indian-Americans in the United States have received a special honor. Massachusetts Governor Maura Healey has officially declared August 15 as ‘India Day’, to be observed annually across the state. The proclamation recognizes the significant contributions of the Indian-American community to the state’s economic and cultural development.
In her official proclamation, Governor Healey highlighted India’s independence from British rule in 1947 and its emergence as the world’s largest democracy. She also praised the contributions of Indian-Americans in key fields including healthcare, technology, education and business.
The governor acknowledged the important role played by the Indian diaspora across the world and recognized the Indian-American community’s contributions to the growth and development of Massachusetts.
Meanwhile, Boston Mayor Michelle Wu has also issued a special proclamation declaring August 15 as ‘India Day’ in Boston. She welcomed the establishment of a new Indian Consulate office in the city.
The declarations are being seen as a significant recognition of the Indian-American community and the strong cultural and people-to-people ties between India and the United States.
