The United States government has proposed a significant increase in wages for foreign IT professionals employed under the H-1B visa program. The US Department of Labor officially revealed that the decision was taken on March 27.
According to the proposal, minimum wages for H-1B workers could increase by nearly 30 percent compared to the current levels. Officials said the move is aimed at addressing concerns that hiring foreign talent at lower salaries is negatively affecting job opportunities and wage standards for American workers.
The proposal includes revised wage recommendations for H-1B employees across multiple job categories. Authorities stated that the changes are intended to strengthen wage protection measures and safeguard the interests of US employees.
Public comments on the proposal will be accepted until the 26th of this month. Under the revised structure, entry-level H-1B salaries, which currently stand at over $97,000 annually, may rise by 33 percent to around $123,212. Wage revision recommendations have also been proposed for Level-2, Level-3, and other employment categories.
