Meta Platforms, the parent company of Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp, is preparing for large-scale layoffs. The company has announced plans to cut around 10 percent of its workforce this week, with reports suggesting more layoffs could follow later this year. At the same time, Meta is increasing its focus on artificial intelligence by reassigning nearly 7,000 employees to new AI-related projects. The company is also restructuring teams into smaller, faster-moving groups to improve efficiency. Meta currently employs around 78,000 people worldwide.
Meanwhile, repeated rounds of layoffs have created growing anxiety among employees. Former Meta employee Adel Wu described the atmosphere before the job cuts as feeling like “doomsday.” Employees have also raised concerns over mouse-tracking software allegedly being used to monitor worker activity and train AI systems, leading to internal protests within the company.
