Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has criticised the Centre after his proposed visit to the United States was denied political clearance, calling the decision an “insult to Telangana.”
The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) had said the proposed US trip did not conform to established norms regarding the purpose and programme of the visit.
Revanth Reddy Questions Centre’s Decision
Reacting to the denial, Revanth Reddy said the purpose of his proposed US visit was to attract investments to Telangana and promote the state as an investment destination.
He expressed disappointment that the Centre did not grant the required political clearance and argued that such international visits by state governments can help bring new investment, technology and employment opportunities to the state.
‘An Insult to Telangana’
The Chief Minister described the Centre’s decision as an insult not just to him but to the people and interests of Telangana.
He maintained that his proposed visit was focused on economic development rather than political activities, with the objective of meeting investors and exploring opportunities for the state.
Centre Cites Established Norms
The MEA said the decision was based on the fact that the purpose and programme of the proposed visit did not meet established norms.
The Centre has not indicated that Telangana’s investment-promotion activities are being stopped, but the denial of political clearance has triggered a fresh political dispute between the state government and the Centre.
Focus on Investments
Revanth Reddy has frequently highlighted attracting global investments as a priority for Telangana. His proposed US visit was intended to engage with business leaders and potential investors and showcase the state’s opportunities.
The latest disagreement has therefore raised questions about the coordination required between state governments and the Centre when elected state leaders plan overseas visits for investment promotion.
