The Central Government has clarified reports suggesting that the ongoing Monsoon Session of Parliament may be extended. Addressing the media, Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju stated that there is no proposal before the government to extend the current session.
Rijiju also rejected reports claiming that a special session of Parliament would be convened to introduce important legislations such as the Women's Reservation Bill and the Delimitation Bill. He said that no such proposal is currently under consideration.
In recent days, political circles had speculated that the government might prolong the session due to frequent disruptions and pending legislative business. However, Rijiju made it clear that the government has not taken any decision to extend the session beyond its scheduled duration.
The minister also held discussions with opposition leaders in an effort to ensure the smooth functioning of Parliament. Despite these meetings, he reiterated that there is no plan to either extend the current session or call a special session.
His clarification has helped dispel rumors surrounding Parliament's schedule and provided clarity on the government's legislative plans for the current session.
