India enjoyed a productive third day at the 2026 Asian Games, adding four medals to take its overall tally to six — four silver and two bronze. Shooting led the medal charge, while Suchika Tariyal created history in mixed martial arts.
The medal rush began in shooting, where Himanshu Dhillon, Rudrankksh Patil and 18-year-old Parth Mane won silver in the men’s 10m air rifle team event. India finished with 1898.4 points, while China took gold with 1899.0 and set a new world record.
India then added two more medals in the individual 10m air rifle event. Himanshu Dhillon won silver, while Rudrankksh Patil secured bronze. The results gave India three shooting medals on the day.
The other medal came from Suchika Tariyal, who became the first Indian to win an Asian Games medal in mixed martial arts. She secured bronze in the women’s traditional 60kg category as MMA made its Asian Games debut.
Tariyal’s semifinal against Singapore’s Hui Hoon Teo ended in a draw. After an appeal, the bout remained tied and the winner was determined using the morning weigh-in rule. Teo, who was around 700 grams lighter, advanced to the final, leaving Tariyal with the bronze medal.
India also produced strong results in team sports. The women’s hockey team defeated Indonesia 17-1, following a 19-0 opening win against Uzbekistan. India has now scored 36 goals across its first two matches.
In kabaddi, the Indian women’s team began its title defence with a 42-21 victory over Bangladesh, while the men defeated Japan 49-24.
At the end of Day 3, India’s medal tally stood at six — four silver and two bronze. The country is still waiting for its first gold medal at the Games.
