Nagoya: India added two more athletics medals at the 2026 Asian Games, with Prachi Choudhary winning bronze in the women’s 400m and Tajinderpal Singh Toor claiming silver in the men’s shot put.

Prachi Choudhary finished third in the women’s 400m final with a timing of 53.21 seconds. Bahrain’s Salwa Naser won the gold in a Games-record 49.20 seconds, while Iran’s Zahra Zarei Manoujan took silver in 52.38 seconds. India’s other finalist, Kiran Pahal, finished fifth with a time of 53.41 seconds.

In the men’s shot put final, Tajinderpal Singh Toor produced a best throw of 20.64m to finish second. Iran’s Mohammadreza Tayebise won gold with a Games-record 20.81m, while Saudi Arabia’s Mohammed Tolu took bronze with 20.48m.

Toor had previously won shot put gold at the 2018 Jakarta and 2022 Hangzhou Asian Games. His silver in Nagoya means he has now won a medal in the event at three consecutive editions of the Asian Games.

For Prachi, the bronze was a significant individual achievement in the 400m. After the race, she indicated that her focus would now turn to the 4x400m relay.

India also added another athletics medal on the same day through Sawan Barwal, who won silver in the men’s marathon.

Following the day’s results, India’s overall medal tally reached 30, comprising four gold, 12 silver and 14 bronze medals.
