A football fan from the United States has stunned many after spending nearly $11,000 (around ₹9 lakh) on a single ticket for the FIFA World Cup 2026 final.

After failing to secure tickets in all three FIFA lottery rounds, the lifelong football lover decided he couldn't miss the biggest match in the sport. He eventually bought a Category 3 ticket for $10,925, despite admitting the price was far too high.

"It's a once-in-a-lifetime experience," he said, explaining why he chose to pay such a huge amount.

To make the purchase possible, he gave up plans for a European vacation and a luxury cruise. Even more remarkably, he used money earned during a five-month work assignment in Antarctica to fund his World Cup dream.

The former software engineer, who was laid off last year, took a temporary job as a broadcast engineer in Antarctica and dedicated most of those earnings to buying the ticket.

In the end, the World Cup final ticket cost him nearly four months' salary — but for this devoted fan, the chance to witness football's biggest spectacle was worth every penny.
