Ireland have announced their squad for the one-off Test against New Zealand, with four uncapped players earning maiden call-ups. Jake Egan, Tom Mayes, Liam McCarthy and Reuben Wilson have been included in the squad for the historic clash.
Several key players, including Paul Stirling, Barry McCarthy, Gavin Hoey and Josh Little, have been ruled out due to injuries. Veteran batter Andy Balbirnie, the only player to feature in all 12 of Ireland’s Test matches so far, will continue to lead the side.
Jake Egan impressed recently with a century in the Emerald Challenge, while Tom Mayes starred with six wickets in the same match. South Africa-born Liam McCarthy has already represented Ireland in white-ball cricket, and 19-year-old Reuben Wilson is regarded as an exciting young pace prospect.
The Belfast Test will mark Ireland’s first-ever Test match against New Zealand and only the second Test to be played at the venue.
