In a striking case highlighting the role of social media in solving crimes, a domestic help has been arrested for allegedly stealing jewellery worth approximately ₹10 lakh from her employer’s residence and later getting exposed after posting about it online.
According to reports, the accused had access to the household and allegedly removed gold and other valuables over a period of time. The theft initially went unnoticed until the employer came across social media reels and posts in which the accused was seen wearing jewellery that closely resembled the missing items.
Suspicion grew after the victim matched specific designs and ornaments with those missing from their home. This led to a formal complaint being filed with the police, following which an investigation was launched.
Authorities verified digital evidence, including social media content and other online activity, which helped establish a connection between the accused and the stolen jewellery. The domestic help was subsequently taken into custody for questioning.
Police officials stated that further investigation is underway to determine whether more individuals were involved and whether additional stolen property can be recovered.
The incident once again underscores how social media footprints can play a crucial role in cracking theft cases, especially when suspects inadvertently expose themselves online.
