The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has intensified its efforts to improve waste management by successfully collecting 2,598 furniture waste items through its doorstep pickup service across Hyderabad. The initiative is aimed at helping citizens dispose of large household furniture in an environmentally responsible manner while keeping public spaces clean.
According to GHMC, the civic body has so far attended to 498 pickup requests received from different parts of the city. The collected items include 325 mattresses, 205 sofas, 142 beds, 48 cabinets, 38 tables, 25 bookshelves, and 1,815 other bulky furniture items.
Officials said the campaign is part of GHMC's broader mission to build a cleaner, greener, and clog-free Hyderabad. Proper disposal of bulky furniture helps prevent waste from being dumped on roadsides, open spaces, and drainage channels, reducing the risk of waterlogging and environmental pollution.
GHMC also assured residents that every effort is being made to clear pickup requests as quickly as possible. Citizens whose requests remain pending for a longer period have been advised to contact @GHMCOnline with their reference number so that the issue can be resolved promptly.
The civic body has encouraged residents to make use of the doorstep pickup facility instead of discarding old furniture in public places, emphasizing that public participation is essential for maintaining a clean and sustainable urban environment.
