To address the growing traffic challenges in Hyderabad, the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) is taking steps to modernise the city’s traffic signal system. As part of the initiative, old traffic signals across the city will be upgraded with advanced technology under a ₹77.31 crore project.

The project aims to improve traffic management, ensure smoother vehicle movement, and reduce congestion at major junctions. Officials are planning to introduce modern solutions, including smart traffic control systems that can adjust signal timings based on real-time traffic conditions.

Many existing traffic signals in Hyderabad are operating on older technology and require upgrades to improve efficiency. Under the new initiative, several hundred traffic junctions across the city are expected to receive upgraded signal systems.

The modernised system will include features such as remote monitoring, traffic-density-based signal adjustments, improved pedestrian safety measures, and priority movement for emergency vehicles.

Hyderabad has already implemented smart traffic management solutions, including integrated traffic monitoring systems. The latest upgrades are expected to further strengthen traffic control mechanisms and improve road management across the city.

With the rapid growth of Hyderabad and the increasing number of vehicles on roads, the new traffic signal modernisation project is expected to play a key role in reducing congestion and improving commuting experiences for residents.
