The Telangana High Court has temporarily stayed payments under the Shaadi Mubarak and Kalyana Lakshmi schemes. Hearing petitions challenging the implementation of welfare schemes, the court directed the government not to make any payments under the two schemes until the next hearing. The case has been adjourned to September 9.
Advocate Vijay Gopal filed a petition challenging the implementation of free welfare schemes. During the hearing on Wednesday (August 12), Justice Shravan Kumar issued interim orders to temporarily halt payments under the Shaadi Mubarak and Kalyana Lakshmi schemes.
The petitioner argued that schemes being implemented without resolutions passed by the legislatures are not legally valid. He also informed the court that although the government had earlier been directed to file a counter in the case, it had failed to respond even after four weeks.
Taking note of the submissions, the High Court imposed an interim stay on payments under the two schemes until the next hearing. The matter has been posted for further hearing on September 9.
