A road accident in Telangana's Siddipet district has left a massive Ganesh idol severely damaged just days before Vinayaka Chavithi celebrations.
According to reports, the idol had been purchased in Hyderabad's Dhoolpet area and was being transported by lorry to Siddipet for installation during the Ganesh festival.
The vehicle reached the Pragnyapur area near Gajwel when the driver reportedly noticed that a large roadside signboard near a flyover could come in the way of the idol. The lorry was consequently stopped on the roadside while arrangements were being made to clear the obstruction.
While the vehicle was stationary, another lorry approaching from behind allegedly collided with it at speed. The impact caused the truck carrying the idol to move forward and the huge Ganesh idol fell from the vehicle.
The idol was badly damaged in the fall. A car was also reportedly involved in the chain of the collision and suffered damage. The driver of the vehicle carrying the idol sustained minor injuries, while no major injuries were reported among others at the scene.
Following the accident, police reached the spot and arranged for the damaged idol and vehicles to be removed from the road with the help of a crane. A case has been registered and further investigation is underway.
Police Urge Caution During Idol Transportation
The incident has also highlighted the risks involved in transporting large Ganesh idols on roads. Organisers have been advised to take additional precautions while moving oversized idols, particularly near flyovers, signboards, electrical wires and other roadside structures.
Authorities have also stressed the importance of checking the route beforehand and ensuring that adequate safety arrangements are in place while transporting tall idols.
