Kurnool city is set for a major upgrade in solid waste management with a ₹330-crore permanent waste management project. Swachha Andhra Corporation chairman K. Pattabhiram inspected the dumping yard at Gargayapuram and reviewed the progress of the Waste-to-Energy Integrated Solid Waste Management project.
A plant is being established on 15 acres with a capacity to process 200 metric tonnes of waste per day.At the Joharapuram dumping yard, nearly 10 lakh metric tonnes of accumulated waste is being cleared through bio-mining. Another plant will be established on 9.5 acres at a cost of ₹8 crore as part of modern waste management measures.
Meanwhile, Pattabhiram and minister T.G. Bharath launched 30 electric autos at Konda Reddy Buruju for door-to-door garbage collection. The electric vehicles will replace fuel-powered vehicles and collect wet and dry waste separately.
Minister Bharath said 61 more electric vehicles would be introduced soon. He also said road, drainage and park development works worth an estimated ₹140 crore are being taken up across Kurnool city.
