The Aditya Birla Group has expanded its presence in the construction and building-solutions sector with the launch of Ultravolt, its new wires and cables business. The venture comes with a planned investment of ₹1,800 crore and marks the group’s fourth new business entry in the past three years.
Ultravolt will operate under UltraTech Cement and is entering the wires segment as the second-largest player by production capacity, according to the group. The company has set an ambitious target of becoming one of the country’s top two players in the segment within the next five years.
The move expands UltraTech’s presence beyond cement, ready-mix concrete, building products and white cement. The company plans to use its existing distribution and customer network to tap growing demand from home construction, infrastructure development and electrification.
The new venture is anchored by a manufacturing facility at Jhagadia in Gujarat’s Bharuch district. Its initial product portfolio includes home wires, flexible wires and cables designed for residential, commercial, industrial and infrastructure applications.
Aditya Birla Group Chairman Kumar Mangalam Birla said the wires and cables sector is positioned at the intersection of major economic trends such as urbanisation, electrification and digitisation. The company also sees the rapid expansion of data centres and energy infrastructure as important growth opportunities.
Ultravolt is also focusing on strengthening its distribution and technical network. The company plans to reach more than one lakh retailers and over 5,000 UltraTech Building Solutions outlets, while also training more than 40,000 electricians under the Skill India programme.
With established brands already competing strongly in the Indian wires and cables market, Ultravolt’s entry is expected to intensify competition. The group is betting on its brand strength, manufacturing capabilities and existing construction ecosystem to establish a significant position in the sector.
