California Attorney General Robert Bonta says the state could soon take legal action to block Paramount’s proposed $110 billion merger with Warner Bros. His office is reviewing the deal over concerns that it could reduce competition, lead to job losses, lower wages, and result in fewer movie and TV productions in Hollywood.
Bonta said workers have raised serious concerns, prompting additional scrutiny. He also indicated that simple company promises may not be enough to address competition issues, and structural changes could be required.
Paramount, however, argues the merger would boost production and strengthen its streaming business. The company says it plans to release around 30 theatrical films each year. California is expected to make a decision soon, with other states also considering possible action.
