Northwest Arkansas Telangana Association (NWATA)

NWATA’s mission is to serve as a central platform for the Telangana community by: Promoting Telangana culture, traditions, language, and heritage among current and future generations. Organizing Telangana-specific cultural celebrations such as Bathukamma and Bonalu in collaboration with local organizations. Supporting Telugu-speaking families, students, and newcomers in the Northwest Arkansas region. Creating opportunities for community engagement, education, networking, and leadership development. Providing resources and guidance for students pursuing education, careers, and professional opportunities. Supporting community members during times of need through service-oriented initiatives. Connecting visiting scholars, artists, and cultural representatives from Telangana and Telugu states with the local community.

To build a vibrant, united, and empowered Telangana community in Northwest Arkansas by preserving cultural heritage, strengthening community connections, and inspiring future generations to embrace their identity while contributing positively to society.

NWATA was formed in 2024 with the goal of bringing together Telangana-origin families and Telugu community members living in Northwest Arkansas. The organization was created to address the growing need for a dedicated platform that celebrates Telangana’s unique cultural identity while encouraging community development and collaboration. Since its establishment, NWATA has focused on organizing cultural events, strengthening community participation, and creating opportunities for families and younger generations to connect with Telangana traditions. Events such as Bonalu and Bathukamma celebrations have helped bring together community members and showcase Telangana’s rich cultural heritage in the region.

Northwest Arkansas Telangana Association’s mission and objectives are to achieve following: Build a platform for our younger generations about Indian culture and heritage Providing a platform primarily for NRI Telugu community and their children interested in the causes supported by NWATA to come together for broader discussion of various problems. Celebrate Telangana region specific festivals (Ex: Bathukamma, Bonalu) with the help of other local Telugu Organizations. Promote Telangana culture in NWA region. Strengthen cultural identity of Telangana among communities living in the city vicinity. Develop and maintain a central ‘go to’ place for information resources and links about Telangana and non-residents living in this geographical area. Assist local communities and support when in need. Host visiting scholars, artists and officials from Telugu States. Help Student communities in NWA region of Arkansas. Organize the sessions to create awareness and educate the students to come abroad to pursue their education, career and other aspirations.
