The grand Pattabhishekam and Thiru Kalyanam at the Meenakshi Amman Temple in Madurai were celebrated with magnificent splendor, offering a visual treat to devotees. Lakhs of devotees from across India and abroad gathered to witness the sacred union of Meenakshi and Sundareswarar.
The famous Chithirai Festival at the temple began on a grand note. As part of the festivities, Goddess Meenakshi was crowned as the queen of Madurai on April 26. During the Pattabhishekam ceremony, she was adorned with a diamond crown and presented with the Navaratna Sengol, accompanied by special rituals and prayers.

Following the coronation, the goddess embarked on her Digvijaya Yatra, symbolizing victory in all directions, and later wedded Lord Sundareswarar (Lord Shiva). After the divine wedding, the idols of Meenakshi and Sundareswarar were taken out in grand processions on flower palanquins and elephant mounts, captivating devotees.

Tight security arrangements were put in place around the temple premises due to the massive turnout. The Chithirai festival will continue until May 5, featuring other significant events like Kallazhagar’s entry into the Vaigai River, adding to the spiritual grandeur of the celebrations.
