The Gujarat government is rapidly expanding digital public services by making several important certificates available online, eliminating the need for citizens to visit government offices.

According to the state government, more than one lakh people have used the ‘Sugam Digital Gujarat’ portal over the past four months to apply for and obtain essential certificates digitally.

Seven Important Certificates Available Online

The portal currently provides seven key certificates, including:

  • Socially and Educationally Backward Class (SEBC) Certificate

  • Non-Creamy Layer Certificate

  • Economically Weaker Sections (EWS) Eligibility Certificate

  • Unreserved Category Certificate

  • Religious Minority Certificate

  • Nomadic and Denotified Tribes Certificate

  • Income Certificate

No More Repeated Visits to Government Offices

Under the new digital system, eligible citizens can apply from their homes and receive digitally issued certificates with an e-Sign after document verification.

The certificates will also be made accessible through platforms such as WhatsApp and DigiLocker, allowing users to securely store and retrieve them whenever needed.

Major Relief for Students and Job Seekers

The service is expected to be particularly useful for students and young people preparing for government jobs.

Certificates required for college admissions, scholarships and recruitment processes can now be obtained digitally after verification, helping reduce delays in submitting important documents.

Focus on Transparency and Faster Services

The Gujarat government says the initiative will help reduce administrative delays, minimise paperwork and improve transparency in the delivery of education, employment and welfare-related services.

The strong response during the first four months indicates growing public acceptance of digital government services.

Government Encourages Wider Use

The initiative has been launched under the guidance of Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, with the Social Justice and Empowerment Department overseeing the programme.

Director of Developing Castes Welfare Vikramsinh Jadev has urged citizens to make maximum use of the portal instead of visiting government offices for certificates that are now available digitally.
