According to CENTCOM, the IRGC launched ballistic missiles toward an American aircraft carrier and a guided-missile destroyer operating in regional waters.

The US military said both warships successfully evaded multiple attacks and that no American personnel were harmed. CENTCOM described the Iranian missile launches as unprovoked attacks.

Three Iranian Oil Tankers Targeted

Following the failed missile attacks, US forces struck three Iranian crude oil carriers, according to CENTCOM.

The US military identified the vessels as:

  • M/T Downy, which CENTCOM said was permanently disabled off the coast of Kharg Island.

  • M/T Stark 1, which was disabled near Jask.

  • M/T Kylo, also known as the “Noxen”, which was destroyed in the Gulf of Oman.

CENTCOM said the crew of the Kylo was directed to abandon the vessel before US forces struck multiple critical areas to render it inoperable.

CENTCOM Warns IRGC

US Central Command said the strikes were intended to send a direct warning to Iran's Revolutionary Guard.

CENTCOM Commander Admiral Brad Cooper said Washington would impose a higher economic cost if American forces were attacked and warned that the US would act to defend its personnel and interests.

US Claims Tankers Linked to IRGC Network

CENTCOM alleged that the three tankers were part of a multibillion-dollar “shadow network” that provides funding to the IRGC and its regional proxies.

The claim comes directly from the US military and represents Washington's assessment of the vessels' alleged role in Iran's oil-financing network.

Strait of Hormuz Tensions Rise

The latest exchange has further heightened tensions around the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world's most strategically important energy corridors.

The waterway has already faced growing security concerns following repeated attacks and disruptions involving commercial shipping. Further escalation could affect oil supplies, shipping costs and maritime security across the region.
