A devastating explosion struck an anti-militancy peace rally in Kabal, located in Pakistan's Swat district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, killing at least 14 people and injuring more than two dozen others. The blast occurred as hundreds of people gathered to demand peace and improved security in the region.
According to officials, the explosion was caused by a suicide bomber who detonated explosives near the rally, close to a local police station. The attack claimed the lives of civilians as well as several police officers who were deployed to provide security for the event.
Emergency response teams rushed the injured to nearby hospitals, while police and security agencies immediately cordoned off the area and launched a detailed investigation. Authorities are collecting evidence to determine those responsible for the attack.
Although no organization has officially claimed responsibility, officials suspect the involvement of the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), which has been linked to a series of recent attacks in the country's northwestern region. The Swat Valley has witnessed a resurgence of militant activity despite previous military operations aimed at restoring peace.
Pakistan's Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi strongly condemned the bombing and expressed condolences to the families of the victims. The latest attack has once again highlighted the security challenges facing Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, where militant violence has increased significantly in recent months.
