With petrol and diesel prices continuously rising, vehicle owners are now focusing more on mileage. Auto experts say driving at very high speeds can significantly increase fuel consumption. Studies suggest that for petrol and diesel cars, maintaining a speed between 80 and 95 kmph gives the best mileage. At this speed, engine pressure and air resistance remain lower.

However, once the speed crosses 110 kmph, fuel usage rises sharply. Compared to driving at 95 kmph, a car may consume nearly 9 percent more fuel at 110 kmph, and up to 25 percent more at 130 kmph.

Experts also warn against driving too slowly in lower gears, as it increases engine RPM and fuel usage. Using cruise control on highways can help maintain steady speed and improve fuel efficiency. For electric vehicles, experts recommend maintaining speeds between 65 and 80 kmph for better battery range and performance.
